Sustainability at Colibri is not a checklist. It is a mindset. We approach every decision with long-term impact in mind. This includes the products we source, the partners we work with, and the systems we build behind the scenes. Our goal is not to appear perfect. It is to move forward with purpose. We prioritize progress over convenience and value consistency more than trends.

This commitment shows up in small ways, like using reusable cleaning cloths instead of paper towels, and in larger ways, like investing in eco-conscious partnerships and infrastructure. We are building a hospitality model that reflects our values. It is thoughtful, adaptive, and always evolving. It may take time, but with every stay, we are moving in the right direction.

Beginning in 2026, for every night booked at a Colibri-managed property, we fund the planting of one tree through our partnership with One Tree Planted. This nonprofit leads reforestation efforts around the world, including active projects in Central America where forest loss has affected biodiversity, watersheds, and rural livelihoods.

Reforestation is one of the simplest and most effective ways to restore ecosystems, capture carbon, and support long-term environmental health. While the scale of the challenge is global, the action starts small. One night. One tree. One step forward. It’s our way of giving back to the planet that gives so much to us.

We are actively transitioning all of our properties to use products that are safer for people, homes, and the environment. This includes both the way we clean and the amenities we provide. These small decisions make a meaningful difference for our guests, our team, and the community around us.

Cleaning Supplies

Our cleaning products are moving away from harsh chemicals and toward biodegradable, plant-based alternatives. These products are tough on dirt but gentle on surfaces, skin, and the planet. By using non-toxic solutions, we create a healthier environment for our guests while protecting the people who clean and care for each home. This change also reduces chemical runoff into the soil and waterways, something especially important in a coastal community like Playa Flamingo.

Bath Amenities

We are also transitioning to Costa Rican-made bath products in every home. These include shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap that are biodegradable, ethically made, and free of harmful ingredients. By choosing local suppliers who prioritize sustainable ingredients and minimal packaging, we reduce waste and support businesses that care about the same things we do. Our guests enjoy a better product, and our impact stays a little lighter with every stay.
